| | May 11 NASCAR Nationwide Series:Darlington, SC – Germain Racing’s no. 30 Lumber Liquidators crew spent their weekend off doing what most racers do – racing. Driver Todd Bodine had the wheel of the no. 03 Germain Motor Company Camry and crew chief Mike Hillman Jr. was atop the box calling the shots. The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series crew wanted to prove they could keep pace with the NASCAR Nationwide Series competition and that they did. Bodine started 15th, chased down the race leader near and finished evening in fourth place.“It was a great night for the Germain Racing Camry. We actually had a car to win and I goofed up and got up in the wall in turns three and four when I was behind Matt (Kenseth) and that really messed it up,” said Bodine, who has one NNS win at Darlington (2003). “The contact with the wall took the right front fender and pushed it in and then the car pushed after that. We had a great night, great pit stops -- the guys are doing a heck of a job and I’m just proud to be here racing.”Bodine was also very proud of this Truck Series team’s effort to show its strength in the Nationwide Series, against many Sprint Cup Series stars.“It's great to be able to finish a Nationwide race in the top-five with all of these Cup guys. It just shows this old truck team is pretty tough,” smiled Bodine.Read more (Germain Racing) (05-11-08) |

| | On top of celebrating Mother's Day this weekend - Mary Louise Miller and her daughter Stephany Mullen also have the success of their NASCAR Nationwide Series team to enjoy. Though their team is located in the small orthopedic-business town of Warsaw, Indiana, which is 12 hours away from the hub of stock car racing in the Charlotte, N.C. area, Miller and Mullen are gaining attention as NASCAR owners. They are the first known mother-daughter ownership team in the history of NASCAR racing, a sport that has for so long been dominated by men. The sport is currently dominated by multi-million dollar teams from the south. Miller and Mullen however, are proving that hard work and persistence pays off, and that the little guy, so to speak, can compete with the big boys. "I think we're proving to everybody that a small team from northern Indiana can make it in this business," said Miller, for whom ML Motorsports got its name when it was founded 10 years ago. | | May 10 NASCAR Nationwide Series: Post race quotes from Clint Bowyer, finished second- "We just got tight, too quick..We've just got to get better, got to work on our program. The 20 car is whipping everyone's butt, week in week out, but it was a good points night for us nonetheless." On the dominance of the #20 team,"They're just playing with us now, they've raised the bar, and it's up to the rest of us to answer the call. They're beating us on horsepower quite a bit, but they're getting through the corners awesome too. We've got to improve our program all the way across the board." | | May 10 NASCAR Nationwide Series:David Stremme remains red-hot following Friday night’s event. He and his Dale Ferguson-led squad overcame race-long radio issues to score their seventh top-ten finish of the 2008 season. Stremme’s sixth-place finish marked his fourth consecutive top-ten finish and his sixth top-ten in his last seven Nationwide Series starts. He and teammate, Steve Wallace, finished fifth and sixth for the second straight week.Stremme’s run allowed him to hold onto the tenth position in the Nationwide Series driver standings over Wallace, by a mere 28 points. The No. 64 team jumped two spots, to 11th, in the owner standings following Darlington. It trails 10th place by only 35 points and is now less than 100 points from 7th place.Said Stremme, “Our Atreus Homes & Communities Chevrolet was pretty good tonight. We had a little trouble getting it to turn, but our biggest problems all day were our radios. Almost right at the beginning of the race, we developed a problem where I could hear my team and spotter, but they couldn’t hear me. It was really frustrating because we could never get our car dialed in like we needed and it made it hard to figure out our pit strategy. If it weren’t for the radio problem, I really think we could have had a car that had a shot to win.“All in all, I can’t complain about a top-ten at Darlington. This is a tough old racetrack and I’m glad that we were able to avoid the wrecks and bring our car home in one piece. Our team keeps building momentum as the year goes on and it’s just a matter of time before we win one of these things.”(RWR) (05-10-08) |
| | May 10 NASCAR Nationwide Series: Steven Wallace’s fifth-place finish at the legendary “Lady in Black” was the best of any Nationwide Series regular for the second consecutive week. His performance elevated him four spots, to 11th, in the Nationwide Series driver standings—the highest ranking of his young career. The No. 66 team also gained five spots in the owner standings, to earn sole possession of the 16th position. Noted Wallace, “Tonight was a great race for our Atreus Homes & Communities Chevrolet team. I got us in a hole by wrecking our primary car in practice, but my guys worked hard and our backup car was just as good. I had a little bit of a hard time figuring out the racetrack at first—I’ve only been here one time before tonight—but I knew once the race started, the pace would change and I’d have a good idea of what we needed. “We really had a better-driving car than our finish showed—we had a car that could have been fast enough to finish second. We were faster than the 03 car and the 2 car, but when I got right behind them, my car just got too tight. I could get up enough momentum in three and four to get up next to them, but it just seemed like they had better power than we did, so they could pull us up off the corner pretty hard.“With that said, I’m really excited about the way our day turned out. Our team has a lot of momentum heading into Charlotte. I can’t thank my guys enough; Harold Holly has turned this whole team around. I really think that we’re going to be knocking on the door of victory lane pretty soon.” Read more (RWR) (05-10-08) |
| | May 9 NASCAR Nationwide Series: Post race quotes from race winner Tony Stewart-This team is so awesome. It’s not me. It’s not Denny (Hamlin). It’s not Kyle (Busch). It’s Dave Rogers (crew chief) and all these guys here. Everybody from Old Spice to Farm Bureau to Armour All – that’s been on this car this year. They’ve just done an awesome job with this thing and it is teams that win these things. We had an awesome race car today. Denny Hamlin was the fastest car in practice last night, but I’m telling you this thing was head and shoulders above what it was last night. We had something for them tonight.”How does it feel to win for the first time in your career at Darlington? “If you were at Talladega a couple weeks ago it’s exactly the same. At the start of this year there were still four tracks that I hadn’t won at. It was California, Las Vegas, Texas, Talladega and here. Thanks to Dave (Rogers) and the guys on the 20 car on the Nationwide side we’ve concurred three of those four and should’ve won the fifth one, but I’m not going to be greedy. You get four this year and three at tracks that I haven’t won at. With the rich heritage and history here at Darlington -- to win here and be the first guy to win after they resurfaced it. It’s a feeling that’s hard to describe. It’s just cool to win at Darlington. You think back at guys like David Pearson who were so good here. We’ve had David on our radio show a couple times and makes you be that much closer to the guy. It’s just fun. This series is just so deep in history in general and this is one of those tracks that history goes as deep as NASCAR does, for the most part. To finally win here is just a huge honor to me (Toyota Racing) (05-09-08) |
| | May 9 NASCAR Nationwide Series: Post-race quotes from David Reutimann, third place finishe r-"Our back-up car was probably better than the one that I wrecked yesterday. We'll never know for sure. It was a good night for the Aaron's Dream Machine. It's not easy to pass out there. It never was easy to pass even with the old surface. It's pretty tough and you've got a lot of good guys out there and the closer you get to the front the harder it gets. I'm proud of my guys. they thrashed and got us going and really had a good car all night, we just kind of fought for some track position. It ended up being ok at the end. I'm happy with the way it turned out. the 20 car is getting a little old--seeing that thing win. we need to do something to try to combat that." (05-09-08) |
| | May 9 NASCAR Nationwide Series: Post race quotes-Marcos Ambrose, finished tenth– “We just fought the track all night and got a top 10 out of it. I’m pretty pleased. We got lucky once or twice out there with caution flags and stuff, but we finished in the top 10 and for us, with where we’re at right now, I think we can really use that as a way to move forward.” WHAT WAS THE RACING LIKE OUT THERE WITH THIS NEW PAVEMENT? “It was OK once you got running. It was hard to set up passes and we fought it a little bit there. We got damage early, which didn’t help matters, but we fought on and finished. I just feel like we got a little lucky out there. We’ve got to be faster, but it’s somewhere to move from. We could have been packed up 10 laps into the race like a lot of them were, but we finished. We fought the track and I think we did OK.” (Ford Racing) (05-09-08) |
| | May 9 NASCAR Nationwide Series:Post race quotes from highest rookie finisher, Chase Miller, finish ed 8th- “It’s just an awesome run for the first time out here with the Verizon-Motorola Dodge Charger. I was having an excellent time out there. We started out the race a little too tight. We fought back from being a lap down because we slowed down a lot on that first long green flag run and got the car where we needed it. The green-white-checkered came and luckily made it through that big ol’ wreck. Man, it’s just awesome. I never thought I’d get my first top-10 my first time here at Darlington. It’s just great. I don’t know what to say. I’m excited, pumped up and ready to go.” HOW CLOSE WERE YOU TO THE ACCIDENTS TONIGHT? “I was just about as close to being in the big pileup as you can be in it without actually touching anything. The 60, when he wrecked there at the beginning of the race, I was right there. It seemed like this weekend the car was a magnet for excitement. Man, it was an exciting race. It was great and I had a good ol’ time. I just took the most cautions approach as I could yet I raced the car. I raced the track and raced the car and made sure that I kept my nose clean as much as I could all night. I just can’t believe my first time here I got a top-10 in my ninth start ever.” DID RACING THE RACETRACK WORK FOR YOU TONIGHT? “It does, man. My Verizon Wireless Motorola Dodge Charger it was pretty tight in the beginning. I just raced the racetrack. I didn’t really care about how fast I was going. And really it was kind of intimidating because I knew I had Harvick on my bumper. I really just raced the track and if he got around me I was going to follow him. But me racing the track kept me up in front of some people. I really just had a good run. I caught the lucky dog at the right time and got a good break getting through traffic and getting through a lot of the wrecks. Luck was on our side tonight. Everybody worked hard, everybody kept digging. No one gave up. We fought back and got a top-10 finish. There were a couple of times Stewart was messing with me a little bit down the straightaway. I’m learning from them, man. All the time they mess with me I learn. It was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it.” “Man, tonight in Darlington was insane. First time here with the Verizon Wireless Motorola Dodge. Really didn’t think we were going to run this well but always hope for the best. The plan tonight was just keep the nose clean and finish the best we could and it ended up being a top-10 finish. Everybody is real excited and we’re ready to go to Charlotte.” (05-09-08) |
| | May 9 NASCAR Nationwide Series: Tony Stewart Wins Darlington DHP 200! Carl Edwards claimed his eighth Nationwide series pole at the newly repaved Darlington Raceway today, setting a track record in his first pole at the track’ too tough to tame. ‘ Those words rang true for the #60 of Edwards as, in the early laps of the race , he found the wall between turns one and two. This brought out the first caution of the Diamond Hill Plywood 200, and retired the pole sitting car from the race. Within 4 laps of race resumption, the #88 of Brad Keselowski struck the wall in turn 1.Upon the next restart, the #20 Old Spice Toyota quickly attained the dominant role as it has done so frequently this season. Tony Stewart, the driver for this event, gained and held a 3 second lead over his closest competitors, the #32 of Kyle Busch in second, and David Stremme running in third. With 50 laps complete, Stewart had a huge lead, lapping traffic. Read More (05-09-08) |

Newsworthy notes from qualifying- the #88 hit the wall during qualifying, but had already clocked a speed solid enough for 13th on the grid. They will be fixing the car and not going to a backup for the race. The 05 of Brett Rowe tapped the wall and will be going home, as will the #18 of last week's NNS winner, and fastest in practice here yesterday, Denny Hamlin, who was running pole speed when he hit the wall. The No. 91 with Terry Cook as driver this week, will be starting his first Nationwide Series race this evening. Kudos to Kenny Hendrick in the #31....Kenny filled in for Stanton Barrett's dad in the Mexico City race. Carl Long has qualified for his first NNS race since Charlotte in October 2007. This pole today is Edward's eighth in the Nationwide Series, but his first here at Darlington. (05-09-08) |
